原住民と先住民

すでに張惠妹ファンサイトA*mei-projectの中で原住民基礎講座というコーナーを作りそこでまとめてあることの焼き直しになりますが、なぜ私が先住民でも少数民族でもなく、原住民という言葉をしつこく使うのかについて書いておきたいと思います。
日本では“先に住んでいた民族”ということで“先住民”という言葉を使う方が敬意を払っているように感じられ、“原住民”というと“原始的な民族”という若干“文化的に遅れている”という意味合いを感じるのではないかと思います。
しかし中国語の場合、“先”(xian1）には「すでにいなくなった」「亡くなった」という意味が含まれるため呼ばれる方としてはあまり嬉しくない表現です。
だってまだ彼らは生きてるし、彼らの文化も衰退しているけど滅びてないし。
一方の“原”（yuan2)は「もともとの」「元来の」という意味があります。
日本語の感覚では違和感があるかもしれないけれど“元々台湾に住んでいた人々”である彼らに相応しい名称と言えるでしょう。

彼らが自らの望む名称である“原住民”と正式に呼ばれるようになったのは1994年以降のことです。
私は日本語でblogを書いている以上、伝わりやすい言葉で書くべきだと思っていますが、彼らが望む名称で彼らのことを呼びたいと思っているので今後も“原住民”という言葉を敢えて使っていくつもりです。
